Backing up against ransomware: the 3-2-1 rule in practice
How to set up backups that really work in the event of an attack or outage. Practical recommendations for Slovak companies.
Ransomware doesn't just target large corporations. Medium-sized businesses are often more vulnerable — fewer layers of protection, but just as critical data.
Rule 3-2-2-1
- 3 copies of data,
- on 2 different media,
- at least 1 copy outside the site (off-site),
- 1 offline or immutable copy (cannot be overwritten by an attacker).
A single backup to a NAS on the same network is not enough. The attacker often encrypts it together with the production.
Test the restore, not just the backup
A backup you never restored is just hope. Test critical service recovery once a quarter — measure time (RTO) and data loss (RPO).
What can we do?
We design a backup strategy according to your systems — virtualization, cloud, SaaS. We monitor job success and escalate failures before you notice them.
